Time To Remove Studded Tires

PORTLAND, Ore. — Driving with studded tires after this Thursday could cost you.  The deadline is March 31st on both sides of the Columbia River.

The fine for getting caught in Oregon is up to $200 and $136 in Washington.

The Oregon Department of Transportation reminds drivers that there are alternatives such as non-metallic studs and newer chains that are easier to use.

A study conducted by ODOT in 2014 found that studded tires damage Oregon highways to the tune of $8.5 million per year.

Studs will be allowed again in November.
