Time Is Nearly Up For The Vacant Wapato Jail In North Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – The building has sat vacant for over 15 years, but today, owner Jordan Schnitzer says he doubts the building will still be standing come November 1st.

Schnitzer was on The Lars Larson Show, where he says he feels for some reason, Multnomah County wants nothing to do with his project and there isn’t much other leadership.

However, Schnitzer remains somewhat optimistic. He says until he physically signs the contract to demolish the building, he will still hear out plans for what to do with the building, even if it’s an hour before he signs.

He has already met with an architecture firm and has schematics drawn up for a warehouse that would replace the jail.
