Suspect Arrested For Attempted Murder In Sherwood

Sherwood, Ore. — On July 2nd, 2023, officers responded to a disturbance with a weapon near SW Murdock Rd / SW Chesapeake Pl in Sherwood. Desmond Pitts, a 27-year-old Arizona resident visiting Sherwood, engaged in a road rage incident while driving his Ford F150. The altercation involved a 36-year-old man driving a Prius. Mr. Pitts fired multiple rounds from his handgun, hitting the Prius as it drove away. Fortunately, the driver of the Prius was not injured. Mr. Pitts claimed self-defense, stating he believed the Prius was about to crash head-on into him.

On November 21, 2023, the case went before a Washington County Grand Jury, resulting in indictments against Mr. Pitts. The charges include Attempted Murder in the Second Degree – With a Firearm, Attempted Assault in the First Degree – With a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon – With a Firearm (2 counts), and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.

Following the indictment, a Secret Indictment Arrest Warrant was issued by a Washington County Circuit Court Judge. Mr. Pitts was apprehended by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona on November 26, 2023, and later posted bail. On January 4, 2024, he voluntarily turned himself in at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
