Portland, Ore. – A disturbing situation at a Southeast Portland elementary school. Parents say a 3rd grader brought the illegal drug crack-cocaine to class and convinced another classmate to swallow it. The principal at Arelta Elementary sent a letter to parents on Monday, but didn’t confirm the white powdered substance was actually crack-cocaine. Newspartner KGW spoke to parents Thursday who were still learning about the incident, and were obviously concerned about it. The district says the student who swallowed the substance was checked out by a health assistant and seemed to be okay. Portland Police have launched an investigation.
