Name Of Auburn Police Officer Accused Of Hitting And Killing Pedestrian Released

SEATTLE (AP) – The name of an off-duty Auburn police officer accused of fatally striking a pedestrian after losing control of his vehicle Saturday in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood has been released.

The Seattle Times reports court and jail records show 33-year-old Michael L. Smith posted $200,000 bail and was released from jail Monday night after a King County District Court judge found probable cause for vehicular homicide.

Auburn police said the officer is on administrative leave during an investigation into the incident.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office says 65-year-old Clifford Jones died Saturday from multiple blunt force injuries.

It wasn’t immediately known if Smith has a lawyer to comment on his case.
