Body Cam Footage of Fatal Clark County Shooting Released
“Drop the gun! If you reach for it force is going to be used” Video shows what happened when Clark deputies fired on a man and killed him
Newly released video shows what happened in the final moments of a Clark County man’s life, as he was being investigated for a rape allegation.
It started out calmly. “Did a crime occur? What happened?”
On February 20th deputies were questioning Jon Gale outside his recreational vehicle. They were investigating after a caller to 911 asked for a check on her mother, who was staying at Gale’s in the Brush Prairie community near Vancouver. The caller said her mother claimed she was being held hostage, and that there were guns everywhere. Though the footage shows Gale cooperating at first, things quickly took a turn when the deputies said they were going to detain the 53 year old.
The footage shows Gale reaching for his waistband, right after a deputy said, “He needs to be detained.” Then you hear, “Drop the gun!” and several shots firing.
Five deputies were at the scene at the time of the incident. Three fired their weapons and two witnessed the shooting. Gale died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. Vancouver Police are leading an independent investigation of this incident.
