WALDPORT, Ore. – The 20-foot juvenile humpback whale that washed ashore on the Oregon Coast has been euthanized, “Based on the animal’s size, it’s condition out here, and based on the less likelihood of being able to get itself back out on the next tide…we felt the right decision, so it won’t suffer anymore, is to humanely euthanize it.”

Stephanie Norman from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says an autopsy will be performed to see exactly what happened and then the animal will be buried, “We’ve consulted with experts on the East Coast…Given the animal’s young age, this will be the best decision.”
