Secretary of State Scales Back Office Hours

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Secretary of State Dennis Richardson says he will be scaling back in-office hours to rest and give his treatment for brain cancer every opportunity to succeed.

Richardson said Monday he’s grateful for countless well wishes and prayers. His cancer diagnosis was made last May. Richardson, the most senior Republican holding statewide office in Oregon – was elected in 2016 to a four-year term.

He made a rare public appearance in the state capitol on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, for the swearing in of the labor commissioner. On Dec. 18, he attended a state land board meeting in Salem by speakerphone. He gave up his plans to leaving the three-member board during his medical treatment on the advice of the state attorney general.
