Oregon Symphony Opens The Season With A New Sound System

PORTLAND, Ore–A new sound system graces the Arlene Schnitzer Concert hall .  The accoustical renovation project was funded through a consortium that included the Oregon Symphony, the Portland’ 5 Fundation, the City of Portland, and several foundations and trusts.  The $9.6 million dollar project covered the $5 million  dollar Constellation installation as well as scenic elements, structural work,  new draperies, taking down the old shell and new safety enhancements.

Meyer Sound has installed 86 ambient- sensing microphones in the hall and 293 loudspeakers.   According to Tim Boot Director of Global Marketing at Meyer Sound, ” Nothing in Constellation system is amplified.  There is no trickery like phase cancellation of sound.  Reverberant acoustics of the space can be modified and the reflective sound enhanced.”  The Oregon Symphony season Opens Saturday October 2, 2021.  Portland 5 will also be using the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and other venues around the Rose City.  All are happy to return to work after more than 18 months of lights out because of covid-19.
