Hearing to Determine if Youth is Tried as Adult Set for July

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – A long-delayed hearing to determine if Caleb Sharpe is tried as an adult for the 2017 shootings at Freeman High School is now set for July 15.

Sharpe, 17, is charged for the Sept. 13, 2017, shootings that killed classmate Sam Strahan and left three girls injured in the rural high school south of Spokane, Washington.

The Spokesman-Review says Sharpe, who was 15 at the time of the shootings, faces one count of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder and 51 counts of second-degree assault relating to the other students in the hallway in danger of being shot.

The hearing has been delayed numerous times because of mental health and other evaluations.

The hearing is expected to last a week.
