Americans Want to Know Where Their Seafood Comes From

Most Americans want to know where their seafood comes from, and whether it was caught legally.    Morning Consult found 72% of consumers want to be able to trace the seafood they’re buying.  The Walton Family Foundation says roughly 40% of the seafood we eat is caught illegally.   Spokeswoman Teresa Ish says we should care for a couple of reasons.  One: helping the ocean, helps the planet, and Two: we eat what they eat, and if there are too many toxic chemicals in our fish it threatens our health.

The survey also found that 78 percent of consumer respondents felt it was the grocery store or restaurant’s responsibility to check the sourcing of the food being sold.
