Beyond the Headlines is a 30 minute, commercial free program airing on all 7 Portland Alpha Media radio stations. Hosted and produced by Brett Reckamp, BTH is a unique behind the scenes look at the week that was. It delivers long-form interviews and reports on topics and concerns effecting people’s lives throughout the Pacific Northwest. Beyond the Headlines features KXL reporters and news-makers throughout the region. It has a loyal following and can be heard live and in podcast form with over 300 episodes as of January 2020.

Brett is currently anchoring Portland’s Morning News with Pat Boyle, weekdays from 5:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. You can also hear his original stories during the Lars Larson Show and in the afternoon’s from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. He also provides other on-air and digital and social media content throughout the day.
Reckamp arrived at KXL in May of 2012 after serving as Director of Talk Programming for KERN, KGEO & KERI in Bakersfield, CA. He began his radio career at KLIF in Dallas, TX and first came to Portland in 1989, working for 620 KGW. His radio career includes stops at KBOI & KTIK in Boise, ID where he provided news and covered the Boise State Broncos football team extensively throughout the 2000’s. Reckamp co-founded and hosted the golf show Tee Time on the Ticket for 8 seasons and co-founded and served as Executive Producer for the Nate Shelman Show.
Brett is a Columbia School of Broadcasting grad (’89) and long-time radio fan and professional. He spent the 90’s in Lake Oswego and in and around Portland providing building materials for contractors for TVBS. Reckamp is the official Alpha Media Portland Pool Master and a true fantasy football geek. He lives in SW Portland and spends most of his free time with his wife Debbie attending basketball and baseball practices and games for their 13-year-old son Keenan. Their family dog Lucy is also usually in tow. She’s a 2-year-old spicy Aussiedor who prefers baseball to basketball. But her real passion is Chuck-it.
