MEFORD, Ore. (AP) – A Medford man arrested by Bend Police in 2016 for possessing large amounts of methamphetamine and heroin has been sentenced to just over 13 years in federal prison for having and planning to distribute meth in Bend.

The Bulletin reports 35-year-old Christopher Soares was sentenced Wednesday.

Court documents say Soares was pulled over June 28 on suspicion of traffic violations when a police dog noticed narcotics within the vehicle.

Documents say Soares had 99 grams of meth, 56 grams of heroin and a 9mm firearm. He later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 50 or more grams of meth.

The case was handled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Bend and Medford police departments and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
