Chuy Copado Oropeza’s family confirmed his identity in a post on gofundme.com, describing the tragic incident: “My family and I are beyond devastated and are still in shock. On Saturday, 10/21/2023, my little brother fell victim to a random shooting while attending a party; he was struck in the chest and did not overcome his injury. He was a young soul, only 17 years old! He was a ball of bright light with a smile that filled the room. Anyone who had the pleasure to know him wholeheartedly would say he was a persistent worker, a loyal friend, and someone who loved to learn and make people laugh. He was also a loving son, brother, and cousin. Chuy’s passing is a heartache felt by the entire community. Our lives will never be the same, and we will forever miss everything about him.”
