Expo Center COVID-19 Testing Site Closes During Transition

PORTLAND, Ore. — The drive-through COVID-19 testing site at the Portland Expo Center has closed as the Oregon Health Authority takes over operations from Oregon Health & Science University.

The site, which has operated since March of 2020, closed last week and won’t re-open until Monday, January 24th.

About 1,600 people a week were being tested there.  The Expo Center site will be open seven days a week and be able to accommodate 500 tests per day.  Appointments are not necessary.

OHSU is offering testing at its Marquam Hill and South Waterfront campuses, but there are no appointments until the middle of next week.

Between the three sites in Portland, they’ll be able to accommodate more than 5,000 tests per week.  It comes during massive demand for testing due to the spread of the Omicron variant.
