Woman’s Body Pulled From Hagg Lake

Washington County, Ore. — Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a tragic incident on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at around 2:17 p.m. Witnesses reported a vehicle driving into Henry Hagg Lake near Boat Ramp A. Upon arrival, deputies were informed by multiple witnesses that a person was seen driving a small pickup truck into the lake and sinking underwater.

The Sheriff’s Office immediately dispatched the Marine Patrol, Remotely Operated Vehicle Team (ROVT), and Gaston Fire and Rescue to the scene. The Lake Oswego Fire and Rescue Dive Team also arrived to assist with the recovery of the vehicle from the lake. Once the vehicle was removed from the water, deputies discovered the driver, 71-year-old Janine Vuylsteke of Forest Grove, deceased inside.

Janine’s family has been notified of the unfortunate incident. The Sheriff’s Office Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) and the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office were called to assist with the investigation, which is still ongoing.

As of now, there is no information regarding the cause of the incident.
