WASHOUGAL, Wash. (AP) – Police say a woman stabbed multiple times by a man in an apartment in Washougal, Washington, has died.

Washougal Police say 49-year-old Linda Burdick died at a hospital Tuesday after surgery for injuries she suffered during the assault.

Police say 56-year-old Robert Burdick appeared in court Wednesday on a murder charge and had bail set at $2 million.

Police say they were called to the residence at about 2 a.m. Tuesday. Police say Robert Burdick called 911 and said he was armed with butcher knives and holding a woman hostage.

The officers forced their way into the apartment and arrested the man, finding the woman with stab wounds to her upper body.

It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.
