Woman Dies In Crash During High Speed Police Pursuit

Portland, Ore – On Sunday, June 25, 2023, a tragic collision occurred at the intersection of Northeast Glisan Street and Northeast 147th Avenue involving five vehicles. The crash unfolded when a suspect, attempting to evade Gresham Police, caused the incident. Regrettably, a woman lost her life in the collision.

The sequence of events began earlier that day at 6:11 p.m., when a Gresham Police officer spotted a car matching the description of a vehicle involved in a series of armed robberies. The officer tried to initiate a traffic stop at Northeast 181st Avenue and Northeast Glisan Street, but the suspect accelerated at a high speed, eluding the officer’s pursuit.

Traveling westbound on Northeast Glisan Street, the suspect crashed into two vehicles, one of which was unoccupied and the other occupied by two individuals. Tragically, the collision resulted in the death of a woman from the occupied vehicle, while the other occupant sustained severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Subsequently, the suspect’s car veered into the eastbound lane, colliding with two more occupied cars. Two occupants from one of the eastbound vehicles sought medical evaluation independently, while the driver of the fourth vehicle remained uninjured and stayed at the scene. The suspect was apprehended and transported to the Gresham Police Department.

To investigate the incident, the Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team has arrived at the scene. As a result, Northeast Glisan Street will remain closed between Northeast 145th Avenue and Northeast 148th Avenue during the investigation.
