Portland, Ore. – (Update)  1:40 PM

  • A little after 5 a.m. this morning a Port of Portland Police Officer contacted an adult male in the airport’s bag claim.
    During that contact, the suspect produced a firearm and a struggle ensued.During the struggle, a shot was fired by the involved suspect The officer did not fire his firearm.The suspect sustained a non-life threatening injury and was treated by medical personnel and transported to a local hospital.The officer sustained a minor injury, not as a result of a gunshot.The East County Major Crimes Team is investigating this incident in coordination with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office. The firearm believed to be involved has been recovered.The airport is open and operational; no flights were or are impacted by this incident.Currently, the lower roadway is closed to private vehicles; ride-share, taxis, and shuttle busses are still able to access the lower road.A portion of the baggage claim area is currently closed so the investigators can gather evidence.
    Arriving travelers can collect baggage at the open carousels. Staff is on hand to direct travelers accordingly.There is no risk to the public as a result of this incident.

Kama Simonds with the Port of Portland confirms to News Partner KGW, that there was an officer involved shooting at PDX outside of baggage claim in the lower roadway area. One person was injured in the shooting,not the Port of Portland Officer. That person has been transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. The public access lower airport roadway is closed near baggage claim. The rides hare area beyond this remains open. Simonds says this is not a busy time for baggage claim as PDX does not have a lot of early AM arrivals. According to BOEC medical was called out at 5:23am this morning. KXL Reporter Rosemary Reynolds is on her way to the scene.
