Oregon – Update: Now a number of school districts are opening two hours late today because of cold, icy conditions. They include Gaston, Vernonia, Yamhill / Carlton, Knappa, and Toutle Lake. School buses in Yamhill/ Carlton are on snow routes this morning.

Traffic alert right now for some drivers on Portland’s West Side. We’re getting reports of some black ice around the Hillsboro airport this morning. KXL listener Keith called the newsroom around 4:30am to say he was slipping and sliding around a bit on some of the surface streets, and even on some of the main roads there too. We’re hearing on our emergency scanner radios that crews are out putting down some de-icer in spots this morning.

In Columbia County, Vernonia Public Schools are running on a two-hour late opening this morning.

KXL’s Jacob Dean talked with Listener Gary just before 6am. Gary was driving in Hillsboro on Tualatin-Valley Highway when we found some icy spots and called the newsroom.
