TULALIP, Wash. (AP) – A Washington state man is accused of abusing his stepson after witnesses told police that they saw the man beating and dragging the child.

The Daily Herald reported Friday that Tulalip police arrested the 53-year-old man earlier this week on suspicion of first-degree assault of a child.

Police were called to the boy’s home after someone reported seeing the man hitting the child.

According to court documents, another witness told police that they saw man drag the child who was screaming and had a bloodied face.

Police found scratches and bruises on much of the boy’s body.

Police say the child also had wounds on his hands from carrying a more than 30-pound (13.6-kilogram) cinder block around the yard as a punishment.

The newspaper did not identify the man.
