Ukrainian Bible Church in Fairview Holds Prayer Vigil, Taking Donations

A service in two languages calling for hope. Prayers for the loved ones thousands of miles away. Melancholy music.

The prayer vigil at Ukrainian Bible Church in Fairview drew a crowd of hundreds.  People expressing the pain and hurt.  Nearly every single church member spoke out, with individual prayers, to protect their family members.  Pavel Adroniychuk’s a deacon at the church.  “There’s sorrow, there’s anguish, praying for peace,” he told our news partner KGW.

They also made a call to action: taking donations to send aid to Ukraine. Knowing their anguish is far from over.  

The church’s leaders actually planned the prayer vigil before Russia invaded Ukraine.

The room filled with chanting, prayers, singing and tears.

 Adroniychuk, noted they were “Praying for the country where most, if not all, of our members are from.”

The church made a call to action, taking donations online to provide food, water and medical supplies to people driven out of their homes by the Russian invasion. 

Church officials said people donating should include the note “help for Ukraine” to make sure the money goes to the intended cause.
