Troutdale Ore – Someone may have hung from a fire sprinkler pipe at McMenamins Edgefield, causing it to break and flood the historic hotel.

A sprinkler pipe burst at the hotel Wednesday evening. Crews said the water caused “extensive damage” before they were able to shut off the flow.

Nearly 200 guests had to be evacuated.

McMenamins Director of Marketing Renee Rank Ignacio told us investigators think the flooding was caused by “guest behavior.”

She said A guest or someone at the hotel may have grabbed the pipe and pulled it down or hung from it.

Guests were allowed back in Thursday following the cleanup. Only six rooms were affected by wet carpet.
