SALEM, Ore. — A suspect who wouldn’t stop for police was shot and killed early Monday morning.

Officers tried to pull over a driver, but they kept going and pulled into a field at Northgate Park where there was a confrontation and three officers fired their weapons, killing 40-year-old Richard Meyers.

Four officers from the Salem Police Department are on administrative leave as Oregon State Police investigate.  They’re identified as Officer Chad Treichler, Officer Griffin McDowell, Officer Jonathan McNichols and Officer David Baker.

A dog inside the suspect’s vehicle was injured and was put down by Meyers’ family.
