Oregon’s seven public universities and the Service Employees International Union have reached an agreement on a new contract that will avert a strike by 45-hundred employees. Bargaining teams yesterday morning reached an agreement on a two-year contract, which includes a five-percent cost of living adjustment and a 9.5-percent step wage increase. T

he strike would have begun on Monday, which is the first day of classes for many of Oregon’s public universities. S-E-I-U members are scheduled to ratify the settlement in October with implementation starting in November.
