Standoff With Armed Suspect In SE Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. — Police negotiated with an armed suspect in Southeast Portland for several hours on Sunday.
The man reportedly barricaded himself inside his vehicle near 129th and Division after a traffic incident with another driver. Witnesses tell officers the man pointed a gun at the other driver before pointing the weapon at his own head.
Police shut down a 10-block section of Division for the safety of residents. The situation was resolved sometime in the early afternoon.
“The use of SERT and CNT units were able to de-escalate the situation, allowing for the person to be taken to a hospital to receive the care he needs. The subject has not been arrested, therefore police are not releasing his identification at this time,” said Assistant Chief Jamie Resch.
The man was believed to be in a mental health crisis and was transported to a hospital to be evaluated. He was not arrested and has not been identified.
