BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) – U.S. Navy officials say a search and rescue helicopter retrieved an injured skier from near the summit of Mount Baker in northern Washington state.

The Bellingham Herald reports the 21-year-old man was skiing with a group Monday when he broke his ankle near the western face of the 10,781-foot (3,286-meter) volcano.

Whidbey Island Naval Air Station’s public affairs officer, Michael Welding, says the helicopter crew responded and spotted the group of skiers.

The injured man was hoisted on board the MH-60 Seahawk helicopter and taken to a Bellingham medical center.

Additional information about the man was not available.
