Shooting Suspect Wounded, Arrested In SE Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man who witnesses say was shooting at passing cars on Southeast Flavel near the Springwater Trail on Wednesday night was found wounded in the street and a victim shot at while driving by was cut by flying glass.

Residents in a 30 square-block area were told to shelter in place to prevent anyone else from being injured as the suspect was still armed.

SERT officers approached the man using ballistic armor and took him into custody.  He was treated at the hospital before being taken to jail.

The suspect is identified as 29-year-old Kalin Duffee.  He’s charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

It’s unclear if the man was shot by somebody else before police arrived or if the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

Mental health workers tried to contact Duffee earlier in the day while armed with a handgun when he threatened to kill himself and police.
