I’ll admit, I was never a huge fan of Elton John’s music. Most of his big hits came before I got into music and I just never really spent time with his catalog of hits. That being said, Rocketman will make you a fan. At its core, this film shows us the effect of not having the love we need to thrive. Rocketman pulls at your heart strings and will have you singing along through a series of outstanding, musically rich scenes through his life timeline, from relationships to rehab.
It’s a tragedy to triumph story, through the eyes…er, glasses, of this musical prodigy. It’s as much the story of a brilliant musical career as it is the search for love. Rocketman is a pleasant surprise full of emotional scenes and lyrical context, that could have been a disaster. But Taron Egerton is believable and endearing throughout this rollercoaster ride. He’s a cocky, loveable, awkward, fun, and insecure character, which isn’t easy to bring to life.
Highly recommend Rocketman! It’s not your run-of-the-mill bio pic. It’s not Bohemian Rhapsody. It takes Elton’s hits and weaves them in as the dialog for a lot of the film. Go see it and lose yourself in this story, it’s remarkable!
