BEAVERTON, Ore. — Ron Holmgren is making wooden desks for students in the Beaverton School District who are doing remote learning from home. He’s made over 70 with his own money and has requests for another 40 or so.
Holmgren saw the need and his wife challenged him to help. So he started talking with his neighbor who’s in the district and got the ball rolling.
He says some kids are doing their school work on their bed and having their own space is crucial to their success. His work has benefitted students at four schools so far.
It takes about two hours and $25 in supplies to make each desk. There’s a GoFundMe campaign, Desks for Students Success to help with the cost of materials.
