Report: No Evidence Of Sexism, Racism From Senate Democrats
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – A Senate inquiry has found no evidence that sexist or racist statements were made by Democratic lawmakers during caucus meetings earlier this year, as originally alleged by one of the lawmakers.
The report from the investigation into public comments made by Democratic Sen. Mona Das about experiencing “hate, sexism, racism and misogyny” during closed-door Democratic meetings was released Monday by the secretary of the Senate. The inquiry into the allegations came following reports that Das made the comments before a Kent Chamber of Commerce audience in June.
Das first accused a newspaper of mischaracterizing her remarks, but when video of the even showed she was not misquoted, she clarified that the experiences she detailed were not overt, but instead coded language she says she has heard.
