PPS Administration Building Renamed

(Portland, OR) — The Portland Public Schools District Headquarters, named after former Superintendent Robert W. Blanchard is getting a new name. Portland School Board members voted unanimously to rename the Blanchard Educational Service Center on North Dixon Street after the district’s first Black superintendent, Dr. Matthew Prophet, Jr. He served as schools chief from 1982 to 1992. Prophet died at the age of 92, in June.
