Portland, Ore. – We should know by Saturday whether the 25,000 strong United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 555 plans to strike. If that does happen, you’ll likely see picketers outside Fred Meyer and Safeway stores in and around Salem. A union spokesperson tells the Statesman Journal they deserve wage increases. Whether or not a strike would affect stores across Oregon and Washington remains a possibility. More meetings on whether to authorize a strike are happening this week in Pendleton, Enterprise and La Grande.
