Portland, Or. –  Portland has just been declared top foodie city in the country. The Wallet Hub survey considered 30 indicators as it looked at almost 200 cities. Analyst Jill Gonzalez says that included affordability, accessibility and food festivals in the area. She says Portland beat out New York City for the top spot and affordability was part of the reason why.

Five West Coast cities are in the top ten. In addition to Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego receive high rankings. Gonzalez says “I think a lot of food trend are  starting to get their start in the West Coast; along the West Coast. So, its not surprising like places like Portland are number one, San Francisco and Los Angeles are in the top five as well.”

The Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association says Multnomah County has 3,050 restaurants and that does not include food carts and eateries inside institutions.
