Portland, Ore. — During it’s weekly meeting Tuesday, the Portland School Board heard a recommendation to extend the current tax levy approved by voters in 2014.

The levy would remain unchanged from the current one issued.  It is set at $1.99 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

With the median home price in Portland at just under $420,000, the average homeowner would pay $835 per year.

The school board says the money would be used to support 800 teaching position and other teaching needs.

The board will vote on the idea August 13th.

The current levy is set to expire at the end of this year.
