Portland Names New Director For Bureau Of Emergency Management

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Bureau of Emergency Management has a new Director.

Mayor Ted Wheeler announced Thursday that Shad Ahmed has been hired after a national search.

Ahmed currently lives in New England and serves on the International Association of Emergency Managers’ Certified Emergency Manager Commission.

“I am confident Shad’s background and experience will provide valuable contributions to the bureau’s existing work and position Portland to be better prepared for future challenges,” said Mayor Wheeler. “I also want to sincerely thank Jonna Papaefthimiou for her service as PBEM’s interim director. Her leadership and resourcefulness helped guide us through very difficult times. I look forward to having her continue to serve the City of Portland in her new role as our first Chief Resilience Officer.”
