Portland Diamond Project Signs Deal for Potential MLB Stadium Site on South Waterfront

Portland – Ore. The Portland Diamond Project announced Tuesday that it has signed a Letter of Intent to purchase Zidell Yards on Portland’s South Waterfront, a 33-acre site where it plans to develop a Major League Baseball stadium.

Founded in 2017, the Portland Diamond Project is an initiative aimed at bringing a Major League Baseball team to Portland. The organization’s investors include NFL quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife, singer-songwriter Ciara. The project is focused on building partnerships with business and community leaders to bring professional baseball to the city.

The agreement with ZRZ Real Estate, the Zidell family’s business, initiates a 120-day due diligence period, followed by a 42-month window to finalize the purchase.

“This is a significant step toward bringing Major League Baseball to Portland,” said Craig Cheek, founder and president of Portland Diamond Project.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler highlighted the potential economic impact of the project. “This is an opportunity to shape our waterfront, create new economic opportunities, and build a vibrant and sustainable neighborhood,” Wheeler said.

Jay Zidell, president of Zidell Companies, stated that the sale is the right move for the family. He noted that the potential for a baseball stadium at Zidell Yards is an ideal use of the land.

The Portland Diamond Project’s effort to bring a Major League Baseball team to Portland is ongoing, with the potential stadium site at Zidell Yards representing a key development in the process.
