UPDATE – 5:15 PM – Portland Police have confirmed the suspect with a gun is a student at Parkrose High School. He is now in custody.

Investigators have also determined that, armed with a shotgun, the student entered a classroom and was confronted by a staff member. That staff member, who multiple reports say is Head Football Coach Keanon Lowe, then detained him until officers could arrive.

It still has not been determined if any shots were fired.

In a statement, Police Chief Danielle Outlaw said, “Incidents such as the one that occurred today strikes the worst fear in the hearts of students and parents. The officers and school staff worked together to respond quickly and ensure the safety of all involved. I commend the school staff member who displayed quick actions and bravery when he confronted the subject.”

The investigation into this incident continues.

UPDATE: Multiple reports say it was Parkrose High School football coach Keanon Lowe who wrestled the suspect to the ground. Lowe was a star football player at the University of Oregon before becoming a coach.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Police say a Parkrose High School staff member wrestled a man with a gun to the ground Friday morning.

The school has been cleared and there is no indication of any injuries or another shooter.

Police have not determined if any rounds were fired, but the gun has been recovered.

Parents should should pick up their kids at the Sears Outlet at NE 122nd and Sandy.

The school is located at 12003 NE Shaver Street.

Portland Police’s Gun Violence Reduction Team will lead the investigation.
