Lake Oswego, Ore. – A Lake Oswego woman is speaking out about the recent murders of an American family in Mexico, because her niece, Rhonita Miller, was one of the victims killed. Ruth Wariner tells News Partner KGW she was born into that world of violence and survived escaping it when she ran away at 15-years-old. She eventually became an author and wrote a book about the experience. She says her grandfather founded the LeBaron community – whose origins are with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but split off from the church after polygamy was banned. That’s when the family fled to Mexico. She says her uncle killed about 25 people. Wariner ran away with a handful of her siblings at 15-years-old to get away from sexual abuse from her stepfather.
