UPDATE: BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Authorities have identified a pedestrian killed after being struck Thursday by an on-duty Washington County deputy who was driving.
The Beaverton Police Department on Friday identified the pedestrian as 24-year-old Oliver Sevin Frazier-Savoy of Beaverton.
The crash happened shortly before 2 a.m. near the Nike World Headquarters.
Police say the deputy, responding officers and paramedics attempted life-saving measures but Frazier-Savoy died at the scene.
Police have said speed is not believed to have been a factor.
Their initial investigation, led by the Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Team, determined the deputy had been going through a green light with the collision occurred.
Police said Friday that the team is still investigating.
The deputy is on standard administrative leave.
Beaverton Police say an off duty Washington County Deputy hit and killed a man with his vehicle. It happened near the Nike World Headquarters.
Just before 2 this morning police went to the intersection of Southwest Murray Boulevard and Bowerman Drive. That’s where the deputy, officers and paramedics tried to revive the man but were unsuccessful.
Beaverton Police Officer Matt Henderson tells us, “The initial investigation appears to have shown that the man was crossing the street near that intersection when he was struck.” KXL’s Annette Newell asked, “But the deputy actually had the right of way?” Henderson said, “It appears that way, but the investigation is ongoing.”
He says they do not think speed was a factor, and there’s no word yet on whether they’ll test the deputy or victim for alcohol or drugs.
The deputy’s on administrative leave pending the results of two investigations.
Police have not yet released the deceased man’s identity pending notification of his family.
