Nurses, Health Pros Prepare for Strike Vote

They’re the people many of us rely on for health care during this pandemic.  And they might walk off their jobs soon.

After their contract expires Thursday, 3,400 members of the Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals, which represents workers at Kaiser Permanente facilities, will vote on whether to go on strike.

The union says Kaiser offered only 1% raises and lower pay for newly hired workers, which it says will make COVID-19 linked staffing shortages worse, and hurt patient care.

Kaiser counters that it is already paying its health care workers above market rates, and is continuing to negotiate.
