Not Just Coronavirus Worrying Seattle-Area Hospitals

SEATTLE (AP) – Washington state public health officials have raised concerns after more than 100 people contracted hepatitis A in the Seattle area since the beginning of January, coinciding with the coronavirus pandemic.

The Seattle Times reported that Public Health – Seattle & King County previously recorded no more than 16 hepatitis A cases annually over the last decade.

Health officials say about 50% of this year’s cases have been detected among people experiencing homelessness, including more than a dozen cases in Ballard last month.

Advocates have argued that not enough preventive measures are taken for homeless people who do not stay in shelters.
