Portland, Or. – The speed limit on NE Marine Drive between  33rd and 138th has been lowered from 45 mph to 40 mph. Six people have died along that stretch of road in the last two years.

John Brady with PBOT says a five mile reduction in speed can save lives. He says “excessive speed is one of the factors in over half of the deadly and serious injuries crashes. So, if we can get people to slow down, we can really make a difference.”

For the next two weeks, cameras will issue speeding drivers a warning. After that , citations will be issued.

PBOT lowered the speed limit on Marine Drive between I-5 and 33rd last fall from 40 mph to 35 mph.
