More Than 500 Become New U.S. Citizens In Portland Ceremony

PORTLAND, Ore.– The Oregon Convention Center was packed Thursday with families supporting loved ones .  A variety of different homeland countries were represented.  In 2020, the U.S. granted citizenship to 625,400 people.  To become naturalized, a person must spend at least 5 years as a lawful permanent resident.  It can take more than 7 years to achieve citizenship.
