BEND, Ore. (AP) – A man who fled to Mexico and Canada before his trial on child sexual abuse charges has been returned to an Oregon jail.

KTVZ-TV reported Wednesday that 45-year-old Ezekiel Sandoval Garcia was transferred to the Deschutes County Jail in Bend June 7.

Police say the former Redmond resident cut off a GPS ankle monitor and fled to Mexico and then to Canada, where he was arrested in October 2018.

Authorities say he traveled to Mexico in October 2017 and later flew to Vancouver, British Columbia, using a fake name and passport.

Sandoval Garcia was arrested in March 2015 and indicted on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration.

A July 2015 indictment indicated the victim was a girl under 12.
