Man Dies, Woman Critically Injured In NE Portland House Fire

PORTLAND, Ore. — A house fire in Northeast Portland early Wednesday morning took the life of a man and critically injured a woman.

Crews with Portland Fire and Rescue found the home at Northeast 57th and Wygant engulfed in flames around 3:30am.  They encountered hoarder conditions that forced them to attack the fire from outside.

The first victim was found outside and given medical treatment before being transported to a hospital.  During a search of the home, firefighters found 59-year-old David Johnson dead inside.  A dog inside died as well.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
