Man Dies After Assaulting Forest Grove Police And Taser Was Used

Forest Grove, Ore. — A man has died after Forest Grove Police tased him last week.

44-year-old James Marshall died Friday, after Forest Grove Police tased him Wednesday night in an incident involving four officers.

Police say it happened after they got a call from, “A citizen who reported there was a subject wearing no shirt running up and down the street with a flag pole.”

They say they found Marshall at a church, where they say he was “Uncooperative, erratic, and making threatening moves with the 10-foot aluminum flag pole.”

Forest Grove Captain Michael Hall tells us: “One of our officers was assaulted by the subject and had to deploy a taser during that confrontation.”

Police say right after they subdued him, Marshall appeared to stop breathing. They took him to a hospital, where he was in critical condition until he passed away Friday.

The Washington County Major Crimes Team will review footage from the body cameras officers were wearing.
