YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) – A 27-year-old Yakima man has been charged with second-degree assault after police say he fired at two people who were chasing him as he drove a stolen sport-utility vehicle.

Prosecutors filed charges against Elizondo Medina Duarte Monday in Yakima County Superior Court. They are also seeking firearms enhancements, which would add at least three years to each of the two assault counts if Duarte is convicted.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports that police say a woman spotted her brother-in-law’s Chevrolet Tahoe in the Caribbean Casino parking lot on the afternoon of May 1. The SUV had been reported stolen in March, police said.

Duarte was arrested shortly afterward and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

In addition to the assault charges, Duarte is also charged with possessing a stolen motor vehicle. He is expected to be arraigned on May 16.
