Portland, Or. – The National Weather Service in Portland is looking for more weather watchers. It will hold a virtual weather spotter training class tonight at 6. Forecaster Amanda Bowen says they want to “train people to  essentially be our eyes  in the field.”  She says ”our radar has some limitations that it cant see what’s happening on the ground. So, we train people to look out for important weather and  let us know when it happens.”

She says they cover 19 counties in NW Oregon and SW Washington and currently have about 1,500 trained spotters. She says they always welcome more. She says people who can’t make it tonight can go to their website and look at other training coming up.
