Local Filmmaker Wins Award for Yaphet Kotto Interview

Local filmmaker Dave Paull has a way with words.  He also has a way with people, and was able to bring out the human and theatrical side of the late actor Yaphet Kotto.   He interviewed him about his career on stage, in films and on television before his death and has now won an award for Best Documentary Interview at Newsfest International Film Festival.  Even if you don’t know the name right off the bat, you’ll recognize Kotto from the movies Alien, The Running Man, Live and Let Die, and from Homicide Life on the Streets, along with many other performances.  He started acting in 1958, working pretty much up until his death at the age of 81 in 2021.
